Happy Birthday to my Mom

The other day my dad asked me to make a card for my mom for her birthday (from him, of course) and I said sure. :)  So I got busy looking at some sketch challenges.  I saw the one from this week's Hand Stamped Sentiments and had an idea pop in my mind right away.  This is what I came up with.  Can you tell what her favorite color is?  :)

Of course I needed to make her a card from me and my family so I got to work again and ended up using the same sketch challenge from Hand Stamped Sentiments and the SUO (Stampin' Up! Only) challenge.  This week's challenge is to use one of your favorite retiring sets on your card.  I have a couple of favorites and Elements of Style is one of them.  So so sad to see this one go. :(

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Birthday Bunch

Some of you might remember Stampin' Up came out with a project I posted about a couple of weeks ago the Bloomin' Bouquet Project Kit.  At my upline's last demo meeting we put the set together.  They weren't too difficult to make, so I thought I'd make a couple of my own kind.  I grabbed the Mixed Bunch set and came up with these flowers.  I made it into a b-day card for my sister-in-law. :)  I used the Mojo Monday #293 sketch challenge for the design, and the Paper Players color challenge #145 for the colors.  I must say, I thought it was hard to get good pics when I use shimmer paint, but the heat and stick powder with dazzling diamonds is worse!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Pool Party Pop-Up Posies

Today I have a few last things to show you that I made using the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit..specifically the pool party flowers.  I hope you enjoy each way I made the flowers.  I wasn't so sure about this set since I like to come up with my own 3-D flowers, but after playing with it and quickly and easily making flowers it won me over. :)  There are so many other samples online line that you can check out too.

With this flower I snipped each of the petals in half, put in the brad, then folded each of the petals forward to give it some depth.

On this flower I sponged around the edges of the petals with Island Indigo ink, put the brad in, then crumpled the petals.  The darker ink really adds some character to the flower.  I actually forgot I had made a little note card that I had slipped inside of this little envelope until I grabbed it to take some pics. lol

These were actually my favorite flowers and of course the hardest to make!  When I was messing around with the flowers I found I could make the crocuses by folding them a certain way.  I know...crocuses aren't blue.  I even checked online and they are pretty much all white, purple or yellow.  I decided to make them anyway because they were unique and they made me look forward to the first flowers that pop up in my yard every spring. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Red Hot Swaps

Today's cards are the swaps I made for our Red Hot Swap.  We needed to use something from the Spring Catalog or Sale-a-bration.  I decided to use the oval framelits and the the creped filter paper.  I was going to make purple flowers and use whisper white card stock, but didn't have enough whisper white card stock left.  How could I get so low on whisper white!  I don't know, but I did.  I'm good to go again though. :)  I'll share the goodies I received in return in a few days.  I'm hoping to get my last few soon.  I love what I've received so far!!

Delightful Dahlia - with instructions

Well, today's card is kind of a request.  I made a dahlia earlier this year and never posted pics or instructions on how to make it.  I was asked how I made it and thought it would be easier to make up another flower and take pics of each of the steps instead of trying to write every small detail.  Now if I loved to write it wouldn't be a problem, but making another flower is definitely a lot more fun for me! :)  After making the flower I looked through sketch challenges I follow and decided to use the Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge to put my flower on. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Stamp Set:  Curly Cute
Card Stock:  Perfect Plum & Whisper White
Classic Stampin' Pad:  Perfect Plum
Punches:  Blossom Petals Builder, 1 3/8" Circle & 3/4" Circle
Embossing Folder:  Delicate Designs
Bigz Die:  Daisies Flower # 2 - smallest one (retired)
Jewels:  Basic Pearls
Shimmer Paint:  Champagne Mist
Sponges

INSTRUCTIONS BELOW

Using the Blossom Petal Builder punch, punch out 16 of the large leaves and 8-10 of the small leaves.

Sponge around the edges of all the "petal" pieces.

After I had them all sponged I spritzed them with shimmer paint to add a bit of sparkle and to brighten and blend the ink that I sponged on each of the pieces.

Now use a dowel, ink pen or paintbrush...whatever you have...and curve each piece.  I used a smaller smooth paintbrush to curve the smaller pieces.

Punch a 3/4" circle out of scrap paper, then a 1 3/8" circle over the smaller one so you have a piece of paper that looks like this...

Now using glue dots evenly position eight of the large leaves on the circle like shown.

Add the other eight pieces in between the first layer you did.

Now add the small pieces on.  Your flower should look like this at this point. :)  You're getting pretty close to being done...hang in there!

Cut out two of the smallest daisy pieces using the Daisies Flower # 2 Biz Die.  If you don't have that any type of daisy should do.  I put a ruler there so you could actually tell how big (or small) they are.

Not sure if you can see in this pic or not, but I sponged the edges of the daisy pieces (front and back).

Next glue one on top of the other, then spritz with shimmer paint if you did it to all the petals.

Now fold them in half like shown in the picture.

Starting with one end start to roll it together.

It should look something like this when you're done.

Now insert it into the middle of the flower.  You might need to separate the pieces in the middle so there's room to push it in.

The last thing I did was turn it upside down and put a bunch of glue (tombow multi-liquid) and let it dry for a good six hours or so.

Now all you have left to do is attach it to a card, box or whatever else you have in mind. :)

Happy Wedding Day!

Today's card is a wedding card for a friend from church who is getting married today...so happy for her!  She said her wedding bouquet is going to have calla lilies in it, so that's what I decided to put on her wedding card (boy, I really hope she said calla lilies! lol).  I'm sure hers are all white, but I also know her wedding color is a deep purple, so I decided to make the lily white and purple...and keep the card just those two colors.  When trying to figure out how to make the calla lily I had a great time looking at all the different kinds out there.  Wow, I couldn't believe all of the different shapes, sizes and colors!  They are such beautiful flowers!  Any card isn't complete without a design, and the wonderful design for my card is from the Paper Craft Crew card sketch challenge.  Check out their blog here.

Here are a few more pics because I couldn't decide on just one. lol

Happy Birthday

Just a quick post for today...I made today's card for a coworker and I love how it turned out!  I think it's so soft and pretty.   Plus I found an easier way to make my carnations.  Well, an easier way to get the paper to separate without it tearing so it's thin enough to shape and mold.

Just a few close ups.  I always like to see cards up close.

Happy Birthday!

Today's card is for my wonderful upline, Glenda!  It was her birthday yesterday, so I wanted to make her a special card. :)  My inspiration for her card is from a few different places.  I first saw this flower on the cover of the Stampin' Up! Stampin' Success demonstrator magazine and loved it! The card design is from the Paper Players sketch challenge...so glad these are out here because it's nice to have a design so I don't have to come up with one.  The flower is from my garden.  Late in August I finally got some beautiful flowers from one of my dahlia plants that I thought was going to die earlier in the summer.  When it finally bloomed I took some pictures in hopes of recreating one of them. Definitely not the same as the real flower, but I love how it turned out!  Just wish the picture turned out better. :(

Thank You Carnation

Today's card is a thank you for a couple that has been very kind and generous.  One of the things I received was a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and I wanted to copy one of the flowers from it.  Well, one was a carnation and that's my favorite flower...and I've made a few of them lately!  Since I've been trying to enter sketch challenges I used the Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge for my card's design.
