Nautical Sketch Birthday Card and VIDEO ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Just a quick reminder that today is the last day to sign up for RG Presents... which is on Saturday, March 25.  If you'd like to sign up just let me know or go to my website here...www.funstampersjourney.com/sarahoogendoorn and use the code BD-0235.

Do you ever have a card that inspires you to create?  Sometimes I Google certain words to see what comes up to inspire me.  I needed a little inspiration when I wanted to use the lighthouse stamp from the FSJ stamp set Nautical Sketch.  I think I Googled something like "hand stamped cards with lighthouses".  While I was scrolling I saw a card by Deb S. that eventually led me to her blog HERE.  I love how she used dark colors on the card and the oval to frame her light house.  I decided to use pan pastels to create the background and color in my light house.  I created a video for you to see how easy it is to do!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Hit the Road Birthday Card and Video ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Hey Everyone...I have a couple of fun masculine cards to show you today.
My nephews have their birthdays a few weeks apart, so they have a birthday party sometime in between.  I usually make them the same card, but sometimes change the colors up a bit.  That's what I did on their cards this time around.  The first card I made was the Candy Apple truck and the second one is Huckleberry Fusion truck.
I thought I would love the red and think the blue was just ok.  I honestly don't know which one I like better!  Both are fun and pretty quick to create.  Notice I didn't stamp my trucks onto Candy Apple and Huckleberry Fusion card stock.  Instead I stamped them both onto Whip Cream card stock, did some masking and sponged the trucks.  I use my sponges in a different way depending on what I'm sponging.  I've made a video to show you how I used my sponges on the trucks...Enjoy!

Stay Wild Birthday ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

It was my brother's birthday yesterday, so I created a card for him.  One thing he enjoys is rock climbing so I thought I'd make him a card of the outdoors and of course there had to be a mountain on it.

The picture below shows how my card started.  I used the stamp Stay Wild and inked it up with Lemon Grass, Green Olive and then Fresh Forest.  The first time I inked it up I made sure I inked only half of the stamp and didn't ink up the bottom of  it either.  I just slid each of the ink pads across it one after the other, then stamped it onto watercolor paper.  I repeated it a second time and moved it down just a bit.

After I had my stamped images on it was time to watercolor...and boy do I need to work on it! lol  Since I want to stick with all FSJ product when I'm creating I decided to buy a covered palette to store my watercolors in.  I got all of these colors with some of my Journey Color Splash Watercolor Pencils.  I used to put it on a block and always wiped it away.  I didn't want to be wasteful so I took the time to put my favorite colors into the palette.  I think I did this before Christmas and hadn't touched them since.  Since then the water had evaporated and left me with dry colors to pull out whenever I need them!  Glad I got to try my hand at it again.  I REALLY need to practice more now that my busy January is over...whew!

Begin Adventure ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Today I have another masculine card to share and boy was it easy to create!  Wish I could make all of my cards this fast! lol

I needed a basic CAS (clean and simple) masculine card for my January stamp a stack and this one just works.  It's not fancy and doesn't have any embellishments, but that's ok some times!

I stamped World Map with Oatmeal Cookie on Butter Cream card stock.  Then stamped the airplane called Begin Adventure right over the map using Hazelnut Blend.  The last stamp from the set Cake Time was also stamped using Hazelnut Blend.  I also sponged all around the edges of the Butter Cream card Stock using Oatmeal Cookie.

The very last thing I stamped was the airplane again on the inside of the card (if you stamp it a second time right away without re-inking it again you'll get a very light image).  You could just re-ink it with Oatmeal Cookie and stamp it with that also.  Then I stamped Happy Birthday from the set Cake Time over the airplane using Hazelnut Blend again.  That's pretty much it other than cutting out your card stock and putting the card together...simple! :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Let's Ride ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

I have a masculine card to share with you today.  With all the Christmas cards and thank you notes I've made lately it was nice to pull out some stamps and create a little something else!  Plus I've had a scene like this in the back of my mind for a while to use with this stamp.

This card almost...almost, but not quite...makes me want to go out and take a ride on a motorcycle.  Notice I said ride and not drive! lol  I've been on one twice in my life.  Once around a parking lot and another time with my son on his dirt bike.  That was good enough! lol  Anyway I created this card for my cousin's birthday, but he doesn't have a motorcycle (at least not that I'm aware of).  I know he's not a chicken like me at all and would have way too much fun riding one (and his mom too!)

This card was pretty easy to create and was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #268.

I stamped the motorcycle on watercolor paper and added the sky, mountains and green valley using watercolor pencils.  No I didn't use the pencils directly on the paper, but rather got the color off the tips of the pencils and put them on a painter's palette that has a lid so I can reuse the paint I didn't use on this card.  Someday...yes, someday I NEED to start making videos.  If I did that you would see how simple it is to create the background for this card!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Deer Pose ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Today I have a quick post for you (and hopefully I will be posting more a little more regularly again!).  Anyway I needed a masculine card for my brother-in-law's birthday last week and since he's a hunter I figured the stamp Deer Pose would be the one to use.

Since I love trying my hand at watercolor and haven't done it in a while I figured it was time to get busy again.  I didn't actually watercolor this though.  I used Fun Stampers Journey reinkers and mixed them with something called Fusion Blender to get this look.  It was very quick and easy to do!  I didn't need to wait for anything to dry, no bleeding where I didn't want it too and my stamped images didn't fade.  :)

If you have FSJ reinkers and fusion blender you should give it a try!

Autumn Days Birthday ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Do you ever feel like you're in a slump with your creativity?  I'm sure most of us have!  Let me tell you I sure have felt that way this week and haven't created much at all. :(  Maybe I just needed a break.  Today's card is one that I created earlier this month for my open house.  I wouldn't call it a fall card even though it has leaves on it.  Guess I was looking for  more of a masculine card since my other card was a feminine one.

I started by stamping a background stamp with Oatmeal Cookie.  I didn't try to get the whole stamp inked up.  I just wanted color here and there.  After that I stamped all the leaves.  To get the various colors I started by stamping the whole stamp using the Oatmeal Cookie ink pad, then I tipped the stamp so I was just getting the edges in the ink, using both Dark Roast and Black Licorice.  After I had all three colors on  it then I would stamp it.  Not sure if that makes sense, but that's how I got the different colors. :)

After stamping everything I put a bit of Gold Silk on it and finished assembling the card.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

World Map Birthday ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

I took a bit of a break from creating cards and blogging most of last week because I was busy spending a lot of time with family.  We lost a special man, my father-in-law, unexpectedly.  Right now I can't begin to describe the loss the family feels. :'(  He will be greatly missed by us!  During this loss there was a special day for someone else though and creating this card brought some joy back in the midst of sadness.  My dad celebrated his 70th birthday so I couldn't miss making a card for him!

Since I don't have a lot of stamps yet from Fun Stampers Journey I decided to use a background stamp to create this card and give it some dimension.  It's kind of like a triple layer card except the layers are scattered here and there...if that makes any sense!  I like to use that technique every now and then.

I used the Beach Towel embossing folder for the background, then layered the stamp by cutting squares out and piecing them together on top of each other.   I cut the top two that are flush with the card the first time I stamped the image.  For the bottom two squares that are popped up, I inked the area of the stamp that I knew I wanted and cut them out.  I layered each of the squares on top of a piece of Dark Roast card stock that I cut 1/8" bigger than what the squares measured.

I have no idea why this third pic that I took has such a different color from the other two pictures I took.  Must be the lighting!  All I know is it was good to get back to something I love for just a little while. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Stay Wild Scenic Stamp Off ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

Pan Pastels...that's what today's post is about again.  I've used them to color flowers and leaves and the background of yesterday's Halloween card.  Other than that they are new to me.  The two cards I have to show you today were spur of the moment, no time to plan, cards (and I just do NOT work that way! lol).
The story is my upline asked me to head on over to her house while she did her live event the other night.  First she showed a bunch of new products that she bought and the AMAZE machine (great time to sign up to get the AMAZE machine and other great products for only $99.99...like my little extra tid-bit? lol).  Anyway she showed off some of the product that came out in the new Trends Mini Catalog and then it was time to get creative.  She let me pick the Pan Pastel colors and then we got busy trying to create a scenic background.  I have to say for neither of us playing with them much I thought they turned out pretty well! :)  She says she likes mine better, but I like them both the same!  We had a great time and she asked me to join her again sometime.

This is my card that I got my oily fingers on...err!  I have to watch that!  Very quick and easy to make though!  Now that I really look at it, it's a rainbow of colors.

...and this is Glenda's card.  So fun!  I love the colors around the sun and how they fade into the dark purple sky.  If you want to watch the video of us creating these cards check it out HERE.  We're at the tail end of the video.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!
