Layered Lovely as a Tree

Today's card is one that I had a lot of fun making!  Ever look at a sketch challenge and wonder what in the world you're going to make with it?  That's what happened when I first looked at this sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday.  Then an idea popped into my head and I ran with it...that's why I said I had a lot of fun with it.  I love it when a card manages to fly together.  Yup, I'm a slow stamper and things need to be "just so" before I'll go on, but this one came together pretty quickly. :)

This is the sketch we had to work with and you can see I did change things up a little.  I wanted to use squares instead of circles, and to fit all the trees from my stamp on the card I had to make it horizontal instead of vertical.  I also changed where I put the sentiment.  I just couldn't get the banner to look right because it was covering too much of my trees no matter how thin I made it.

Make sure you stop by Try Stampin' on Tuesday see all the great cards made using this sketch and to give it a try.  The twist for this week is Trees and Leaves, but I just stuck with trees this time around. :)

I had fun taking pics and a lot more turned out than not this time.  I usually have a hard time getting pics that show the card how it actually looks.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!
Sara

  1. This is beautiful!! How did you stamp it? Did you lay down all the pieces and then stamp once over the top of them (like with triple time stamping)? I want to try this!

    1. Naomi, that's exactly how I did it. The whole concept is like the triple layer, just a little more layered. I just put all of my very vanilla squares where I wanted them on my card, and used the stamp-a-ma-jig to line things up. That way I knew where the trees would land and not have any open spaces on the squares. I really like using that technique and mixing it up a little. :) Have fun...can't wait to see what you create!

  5. This is such a wonderful idea. I'm trying to recreated it put I'm having some difficulty.
Are you saying the 2 square sizes are 1 1/4 and 1 3/8. The larger square looks much bigger then the smaller one. Can you also tell me what the measurement is for the piece of card stock you stamped on. I really appreciate your help.

    1. Barb, I just grabbed my card and I'm measuring the squares. You're right that they aren't all the same size. I'll shoot you some more info in a few when I get them all measured. :)

    2. Ok, Barb, I measured everything. :) I used the 1", 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" punches. What I didn't put on my list is that I used the 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" squares from the Framelit Squares Collection...sorry about that! The big top left square is Early Espresso cut with the 1 1/2" framelit square and Very Vanilla punched with the 1 3/8" punch. The big middle square and the one down and to the right of it are the same size. The EE is punched with the 1 3/8" and the VV is punched with the 1 1/4" punches. For the two smallest squares I cut the EE with the 1 1/8" framelit square and punched out the VV with the 1" square. The Crumb Cake card stock that I stamped on is 3" x 4 1/4" and the EE under it is 3 1/8" x 4 3/8". I hope all of this info helps! :)
