I was going to work on another tiny 3 x 3 painting (100 tiny paintings in 2025 with Kristin VanLeuven), but for some reason couldn't get the video to play on Patreon on my laptop even though it works on my phone, so I decided to work on this week's Watercolor Wednesday at Splitcoaststampers. I'm glad I did because I really like how both of my paintings turned out!
Splitcoaststampers has a video each week and I was inspired by the video from Steven Coates. It's a ten minute watercolor, but it takes me more than ten minutes! Nonetheless, I found it was pretty easy to draw and watercolor. One thing I really enjoyed about this painting is that he used only two colors. He painted with burnt sienna and ultramarine to create this lovely and simple scene. I cheated a little and used three colors. I used payne's gray when I added the rocks on the beach. This first picture is the one that is in my sketchbook and that's where I plan on painting first each time I participate. I'm very happy with how it turned out even thought there are small parts I don't like. But there's a lot more that I do like, so I call that a win.
This is the second painting that I created and put on a card. Why am I painting each challenge two times? Most of the time when I watercolor it's a one and done painting. I've accomplished it and want to move on. I have found by doing it more than one time I'm learning and growing more than when I just paint it one time. Plus I want to challenge myself to do paintings that are bigger than what I put on my cards. Nothing overly large, just bigger than what I'm used to painting. I have more reasons why, but don't want to make this post too long! Maybe I'll add more reasons here and there as I'm posting.
Thanks for looking and have a great day!
Sara
