It was my brother's birthday the other day so I decided to use this week's sketch at Try a Sketch on Tuesday to create his b-day card.
I wasn't happy with the way the image looked on the basic white cardstock the first time I stamped it, so I decided to spritz the stamp with water the second time I did it. That made the colors darker, but very splotchy on the cardstock. Third time is a charm, right? The last time I stamped it on watercolor paper and blended the colors together with a water painter. Way better than the first two tries and it gives it a watercolor look which I love. To vary the colors I started by inking every image with gorgeous grape, then used some old sponges from years back to dab on the additional colors adding them lightest to darkest. Of course I huffed on them to put moisture back before I stamped them. Then it was time to get them wet using the water painter. I did this as quickly as possible so I didn't have lines where you can tell the ink dried before it could all be blended together.
This is the sketch we worked with this week. As usual I tend to stretch it a lot, but I think that's ok because it gets me thinking outside of the box. Plus I don't have a lot of DSP and this sketch is definitely one to use it on if you have it!
Make sure you check out what all of the other designers created with this sketch HERE! If you get a chance to play along we'd love to see what you create!
Thanks for looking and have a great day!
